Get Started in 5 Minutes

This quickstart guide will help you set up your first automated chart delivery from Google Sheets to Slack.

Prerequisites

The most common usage is connecting Google Sheets to Slack. So, before you begin, make sure you have:
  • A Chartcastr account
  • A Google account with a spreadsheet containing a chart
  • Access to a Slack workspace where you can install apps

Step 1: Sign In

Navigate to Chartcastr

Go to chartcastr.com/admin and sign in

Access Dashboard

You’ll be greeted with your admin dashboard

Step 2: Connect Google Sheets

Go to Sources

Click Sources in the sidebar navigation

Add Google Sheets

Click Connect Google Sheets button

Find your sheet -> chart

Find the sheet you want to connect to, and the chart you want to share

Copy the chart URL

Publish the chart to the web, and copy the chart URL
Chartcastr only requests read-only access to your google drive & google sheets. We never modify your data.

Step 3: Connect Slack

Navigate to Destinations

Click Connections in the sidebar, then click Add Destination

Select Slack

Choose Slack from the list of available destinations

Install to Workspace

Select your Slack workspace and click Allow

Choose Channel

Select which channel you want to post to (e.g., #general or create a #reports channel)
For private channels, you’ll need to invite the Chartcastr bot first using /invite @Chartcastr in the channel.

Step 4: Create Your First Connection

Now let’s link your Google Sheets chart to your Slack channel:

Open Connections

Click Connections in the sidebar, then New Connection

Configure Source

  • Source Type: Google Sheets
  • Chart URL: Paste your Google Sheets chart URL
  • Name: Give it a descriptive name (e.g., “Daily Sales Dashboard”)

Configure Destination

  • Destination: Select the Slack channel you just connected
  • Message: Add custom text to accompany your chart (optional)

Set Schedule

Choose when to send:
  • One-time: Send immediately
  • Daily: Every day at a specific time
  • Weekly: Specific days of the week
  • Custom: Use cron expression for advanced scheduling
For this example, select Daily at 9:00 AM in your timezone

Enable AI Summary

Toggle Include AI Summary to add intelligent insights to your chart (optional but recommended!)

Step 5: Test Your Connection

Before enabling the schedule, let’s test it:

Send Test

Click the Send Test button at the bottom of the connection form

Check Slack

Go to your Slack channel and verify the chart appeared correctly

Review

  • Is the image quality good?
  • Is the message text correct?
  • Did the AI summary make sense?
If everything looks good, you’re ready to enable automated delivery!
